Present crisis environment is growing incredibly and with a domino effect it continuously passes from country to country. Economists and finance say there will be harder days in the near future like never seen before.
Bankruptcy and mutation of banks and companies are caused starting of the lack of consolidation that is expected for a long time. Large amount of the big companies and the increased competition pushed to play in risky and harsh games for business world. Too many steps have taken by new financial instruments and new resources. However, as we may expect from physics laws, there is another opposite force over against a force. It was necessary for balance of actions as for balance of powers. It is one of the main reasons of a crisis situation.
Blocking period of the crisis is already passed. That’s why, impacts and future impacts come from crisis will force the instituitons to revise their situations. After looking to their financial structure, immediate downsizing and restructing programs are expecting. Layoffs, closing down the branch and regional operations, lowering the investments, cuts in advertisement and marketing bugets and postponing of the technology investments even cancelling decisions will come to everyone’s agenda.
It is necessary not to forget that, crisis situations also creates new opportunity areas. Especially with the possibilities of the techonologies for years like virtualization, server consolidation, open source codes and “cloud computing” will be the new implementation technologies for the companies in the crisis. When these implementations increase the efficiency with their consolidation offerings, it will be possible to do more business with less resources and will improve the efficiency for the companies in the crisis situation.
Using software as a service, compression of data in the storages, using virtualization by decreasing the amount of the servers, will either downsize the human resource to be used in this subject or provide efficient usage of resources more manageable and outsourced.
Maybe this situation will either simplify or complicate the business of the sales specialists in the providers who are struggling to sell for a long time for their instutional customers.
In fact, the technologies mentioned above are the right tools and in such a period investments and implementations can be done fastly.
This crisis will refresh the “cost center” image of the technology as a “profit center” by increasing the efficiency. And this will appear as an irony for some executives.
